Victoria ISD is celebrating the success of its students who participated in Summer I Dual Credit courses and Advanced Placement (AP) exams, while encouraging families to explore the many opportunities available for Spring 2026.
At Victoria East High School, nine students registered for Summer I dual credit courses. Of those, 100 percent passed with a grade of 70 percent or higher.
Victoria West High School saw 11 students enroll in Summer I dual credit courses. One hundred percent passed with a grade of 70 percent or higher.
Dual credit success aligns with college readiness measures, often referred to as College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR). CCMR is a state accountability standard that ensures students graduate prepared for life after high school, whether they pursue higher education, enter the workforce, or serve in the military. Meeting CCMR indicators can include earning college credits through dual credit courses, scoring at or above benchmark levels on college entrance exams, completing career and technical education certifications, or enlisting in the military.
“Dual credit opportunities allow our students to gain college experience while still in high school,” said LaDonna Fory, director of P-TECH and college readiness. “Not only does this prepare them for the rigor of higher education, but it also helps families save money on tuition by earning transferable college credit early.”
Dual credit courses provide VISD students with multiple benefits, including:
Earning both high school and college credit simultaneously.
Reducing overall college costs by completing courses early.
Preparing for the academic expectations of college before graduation.
Building confidence and momentum toward post-secondary goals.
Enrollment for Spring 2026 dual credit courses is now open. Families interested in learning more about eligibility, course offerings, and enrollment timelines are encouraged to contact their child’s high school counselor or Alysia Hill, College Readiness Coordinator, at alysia.hill@visd.net.
In addition to success in dual credit, VISD students continue to excel in Advanced Placement (AP) coursework and testing. The district saw a 15% increase in the number of exams scoring 3s, 4s, and 5s on AP exams. Scores of 3s, 4s, and 5s earn students college credit for the course.
The district also saw an increase in the number of AP students who qualified for an AP Scholar Award by demonstrating outstanding college-level achievement through their performance on multiple AP Exams.
The College Board AP Scholar Award is granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams. College Board AP Scholar with Honor is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. College Board AP Scholar with Distinction is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.
“Advanced Placement courses challenge our students to think critically and push themselves academically,” said Elise Tate, Director of Advanced Academics, AP Program Director for Victoria ISD. “The growth we’ve seen in AP Scholar recognition is a reflection of their hard work and the dedication of our teachers who prepare them for success at the college level, and of our students' persistence and hard work.”
At Victoria East High School, 45 students earned AP Scholar recognition in 2025, an increase from the previous year. East’s total included 34 AP Scholars, 4 AP Scholars with Honor, and 7 AP Scholars with Distinction.
At Victoria West High School, 47 students earned AP Scholar recognition in 2025, also an increase from the previous year. West’s total included 32 AP Scholars, 9 AP Scholars with Honor, and 6 AP Scholars with Distinction.
Students and families wanting to learn more about Advanced Placement opportunities and how AP courses can support college readiness are encouraged to contact their campus counselor, contact Elise Tate, or visit our VISD website: https://www.visd.net/o/visd/page/ap-pathway
