Victoria ISD is committed to creating a safe, respectful, and academically enriching environment for every student. As part of this commitment, during the June 19th Board Meeting, trustees and the community were introduced to the Citizenship Ready Plan.
The Citizenship Ready Plan is a districtwide initiative designed to support students in becoming responsible, respectful, and engaged members of both their school and the broader community.
Rooted in the district’s mission of “Achieving Excellence for All,” the Citizenship Ready Plan aligns closely with the 10 VISD Values. It serves as a proactive, systemic approach to behavior expectations and character development, ensuring that every student understands not only the academic expectations placed before them, but also the social and ethical standards that guide their actions and choices.
The plan is a collaborative, data-driven framework that involves students, teachers, campus and district leaders, families, and the community in shaping student behavior through positive reinforcement and clear expectations. It aims to reduce disciplinary incidents, increase academic engagement, and foster the social-emotional growth of all students.
Key features of the plan include:
A tiered discipline system that outlines escalating levels of behavioral infractions (minor, moderate, and severe) with consistent consequences.
Zero tolerance policies for serious infractions such as drug use, threats, or violence.
Behavior reflections that guide students through a restorative process to help them understand their actions and how to make better choices.
Campus-wide integration of character-building activities, student leadership programs, and community engagement opportunities.
A clear expectation that both students and staff embody the 10 VISD Core Values in their daily interactions.
The Citizenship Ready Plan isn’t just about enforcing rules, it’s about teaching students how to make thoughtful choices, take responsibility for their actions, and understand the impact of those actions on others. It also prepares them to contribute positively to their schools today and their communities tomorrow.
